MAD-CARE 2 NRJ Andavamamba

As part of the MAD-CARE project, the second awareness and screening day for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) was held on July 3, 2026, at NRJ Andavamamba, in close collaboration with Maisons Des Enfants. This activity informed participants about prevention methods, modes of transmission, the importance of early detection, and combated misconceptions surrounding STIs. Participants also benefited from voluntary, confidential screening accompanied by personalized counseling, thus promoting better management of their sexual health. This day illustrates the partners' commitment to bringing prevention and screening services closer to the most vulnerable communities and to promoting sexual health accessible to all.

On Monday, June 29th, an educational campaign on substance abuse (drugs, alcohol, and tobacco) was conducted for beneficiaries of AIM Anosizato. This awareness session informed participants about the consequences of these substances on physical, mental, and social health, while encouraging the adoption of healthy and responsible behaviors. The discussions were interactive and fostered a better understanding of the risks associated with addiction and how to prevent them.

Bringing together students from Ecole 42 Galaxy Andraharo, this awareness session on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) provided a space for learning and dialogue around the concepts of respect, equality, and consent. Through interactive discussions, games, and a video presentation, participants gained a better understanding of different forms of violence, identified gender stereotypes, and reflected on their impact on society. On April 29, Hygeia Medical organized its first family planning day with women from the Avotraina Association. This Wednesday afternoon, we led a workshop for teenagers at the MADE Antohomadinika center, focusing on raising awareness about early pregnancy. This session served as a review and reinforcement of existing knowledge, as the topic had already been covered with the young people. Through a video presentation followed by a discussion, the teenagers were able to review key information, better understand the consequences of early pregnancy, and reflect on the importance of making responsible choices for their future. The discussions were enriching and allowed us to answer their questions in a supportive environment. This workshop helped reinforce preventative messages and encouraged young people to take care of their health and their future.

This Wednesday morning, the 4th, we also led a sleep awareness session with the young people at the Grandir Dignement center in Ambatoroka. This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the importance of sleep for health, concentration, and daily well-being. Through discussions and interactive activities, the young people discovered good habits that promote quality sleep and were able to share their own experiences. Their active participation and numerous questions made the session very dynamic and enriching. This learning experience served as a reminder that getting enough sleep is essential for growing up, learning, and taking care of one's health.

On Tuesday, March 3rd, we had the pleasure of leading a mental health awareness session with the children of the Fui Mifanasoa association in Ambohimpanaja. This meeting was a rich experience of exchange, sharing, and listening. Through simple discussions and interactive activities, the children discovered the importance of recognizing and expressing their emotions, taking care of their inner well-being, and supporting their peers. Despite the challenges some of them may be facing, the children demonstrated great curiosity, active participation, and a wonderful openness. This session reminded them that they all have value, that their feelings matter, and that it is important to speak up when they need help. This moment was touching, inspiring, and hopeful, reinforcing our conviction that raising awareness about mental health among young people is essential to helping them grow up with confidence and resilience.

On February 26th, we organized an awareness session on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) at Ecole 42. This activity was open to everyone, but the participants were exclusively male. Their large turnout clearly demonstrates their desire to learn more about sexual health and better understand the issues related to STIs. The session was particularly dynamic, marked by numerous exchanges, relevant questions, and genuine interest in the topics covered: modes of transmission, means of prevention, the importance of testing, and individual responsibility. The discussions helped to break down some taboos, correct misconceptions, and encourage safer and more responsible behaviors. We commend the participants' commitment and curiosity, which show that young men also want to be proactive about their health and better informed in order to protect themselves and others.

Yesterday, February 25th, Hygeia Medical conducted a puberty awareness session with teenagers from the ADO workshop at the MADE Antohomadinika center. Despite the heavy rains, our commitment to youth education and health remained unwavering. These two cancers are the most common every year, and according to the WHO, one in eight women will develop breast cancer. Simple actions and proper practices can save lives.

We took part in a workshop on comprehensive sexuality education in Madagascar, highlighting the major challenges related to sexual health and reproductive rights of young people. We discussed the high rates of early pregnancies, the low usage of modern contraceptives, and the lack of sexual education. The discussions focused on international recommendations, local commitments, and the need to promote a sexual education program in schools. The workshop, with 40 participants from civil society, technical and financial partners, as well as 10 parliamentarians, took place on February 21, 2024. The expected outcomes include a common advocacy document and a defined advocacy strategy.

No better feeling than educating and empowering our youth! We recently visited Fokontany Andohatapaneka et Ankasina and delivered an educational campaign on STI prevention to 25 young adults. Thanks to the MJC for helping us gather people. Despite not being initially informed, the group quickly gathered and actively engaged in the session. We're grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact and excited to continue spreading awareness. Their request to have us come back only fuels our passion even more!

Quality sleep is vital for regulating weight, brain function, and the immune system, and even detoxifying the brain! We're thrilled to have educated 30 youths of the Associations Enfants Antananarivo on the importance of sleep, as well as STI prevention and safe sex. Let's prioritize our health and well-being and continue to spread awareness in our communities.

10 years old injecting heroin. Let that sink in. This devastating reality is happening right now in Madagascar, but we refuse to sit back and watch. Our recent educational campaign at the Lycée of Ampefiloha shed light on the urgent need to address the drug epidemic and provide support for those struggling with addiction. Knowledge is power. We're on a mission to break the dangerous misconceptions surrounding periods in Madagascar. In a recent educational campaign, we had the opportunity to inform and empower a group of women in Manjakaray, a low income area of Antananarivo. With the help of a selfless local woman who offered her home for the gathering, we were able to spread awareness about the risks associated with period misconceptions. We refuse to let these misconceptions continue to harm women and their health.

That's why we were delighted to work with SOS Children and deliver an educational campaign on family planning and STI prevention to 34 young girls and boys, ranging from 16 to 24 years old. It was inspiring to see their eagerness to learn and their commitment to taking positive steps towards a healthier future. We hope that this campaign has helped to equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. We're thrilled to have delivered an educational campaign in collaboration with YMCA Madagascar, and seeing the participants' enthusiasm to learn was truly inspiring. We had an amazing time teaching different classes to a total of 258 attendees! Our team covered topics such as overcoming addictions to drugs of abuse, changes that come with puberty, and safe sex practices to prevent STIs. Sharing our knowledge about contraception is crucial. Hygeia Medical organized a contraceptive education campaign at Akany Iarivo Mivoy, a shelter and social reintegration center for homeless families. Our goal was to ensure that everyone had access to information about all methods of contraception, regardless of their availability. Young women between 16 and 40 came; we hope that next time people of all gender will also join in and participate in the discussion!

AKANY AVOKO FARAVOHITRA

Campaign at Anaky Avoko Faravohitra. We covered important topics such as puberty, overcoming addictions, and STIs. We recognize that many of these girls aged 11 to 18 are victims of physical or psychological abuse, or are minors in conflict with the law. That's why it's crucial to provide them with the necessary tools to overcome challenges. Akany Avoko Faravohitra does an amazing job providing these girls with a safe environment, including clean clothes, 3 nutritious meals a day, and health care. We hope that the knowledge we shared will help them in their personal lives, and that they feel empowered to make healthy decisions.

Every child deserves access to knowledge that could change their lives! Our charity, Hygeia Medical, recently delivered an educational campaign on addictions and how to overcome them, as well as an introduction to reproductive health and good hygiene, to 54 attendees at Akany Avoko Bevalala - a center for orphans, boys rejected by their families, and boys who were mistreated. It was humbling to see how engaged and curious the children were, asking lots of questions and expressing their eagerness for us to come again. We're honored to have made a difference in their lives and we hope to continue doing so. Thank you to Akany Avoko Bevalala for allowing us to make an impact in the community. Our charity had the amazing opportunity to deliver an educational campaign on hygiene, hand-washing, and sexual health to 65 attendees, mainly children, at AJESAIA football club in Madagascar. Despite the scorching heat, these troopers showed up with enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. We're honoured to have made a difference in their lives and community.

AKANY AVOKO AMBOHIDRATRIMO

Empowering young women with knowledge that could change their lives! Our charity recently delivered an educational campaign on alcohol, tobacco, and drugs - highlighting the harms they can cause to health and the treatment options available to combat addiction. We also spoke about STI prevention and treatment to 28 young women between 15 and 20 years old - some of whom are orphans or victims of sexual violence, an issue that unfortunately remains prevalent in Madagascar. It was humbling to see how positive and curious the participants were to learn more. We're grateful to Akany Avoko Ambohidratrimo for their incredible work supporting these women every day. With education, we can make a difference!

TANORA MANDRESY NY FAHANTRANA (TMF)

Prevention is key, and we're thrilled to have taken a step forward in promoting safer sexual practices at the Fokontany Ampefiloha Ambodirano! Our charity, with the help of our collaborators at TMF, delivered an educational campaign on STI prevention and treatment to a group of low-income women ranging from 20 to 65 years old - some belonging to the sex work community. With the generous donations we received, we were able to distribute free condoms in partnership with the fokontany. Condoms remain too expensive in Madagascar, and we're honored to have played a small part in keeping the population safe. Thank you to our amazing partners at TMF, and to the dedicated women who joined us on this journey. Together, we can make a difference in the world!

MISSION VIDAH & COMPASSION

Knowledge is power, and we're honored to have empowered the women of very-low income areas with information that will improve their health and wellbeing! Our charity delivered an educational campaign on puberty changes, vaccinations in adolescence, and STI prevention and treatment to 75 dedicated attendees at Mission Vidah in collaboration with Compassion Madagascar. Despite the challenging journey they faced to get here - navigating damaged roads and broken bridges due to the recent cyclone - their eagerness to learn was unwavering. We want to thank the amazing collaborators at Compassion Madagascar and the dedicated men and women who made this possible. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most!
